I’m going to write words I never imagined that I would when I first encountered Mitt Romney when he first ran for office, against Sen. Ted Kennedy in Massachusetts, all the way back in 1994.
Thank you, Senator Romney. You have have respected your office, and you have respected the American people and you have respected the nation that you have pledged to serve.
Thank you.
Today a senator from Utah, Romney is the sole Senate Republican to vote to remove Donald Trump from office on the charge of abuse of power.
While his GOP colleagues have tied themselves in knots of illogic in rationalizing why they all are refusing to follow the clear evidence, Romney is showing a bit of the shine of the Republican party of old, and is doing the honorable and patriotic thing.
Romney is putting country ahead of party, and is telling Trump that it’s time to go.
Of course, Romney’s vote alone won’t be enough and, sadly, Trump will end up remaining in office.
Romney’s dishonorable and disingenuous colleagues have repeated, ad nauseum, that the proper venue to decide Trump’s misdeeds is going to be at the ballot box come November.
Well, now I hope that voters use that ballot box to render the same negative decision against Trump and all of those who have protected him.
And we come back to the lone hero, Sen. Romney.
No doubt he will become something of a pariah within his Republican caucus for straying so far from the reservation and actually doing the right thing.
None of this changes the fact that Romney remains a conservative Republican. I probably still disagree with 90 percent of his policies.
But that’s okay. He’s shown us that even people who disagree on politics can still come together when it comes to right and wrong.
I didn’t vote for Romney in that first election of his a quarter century ago. I still probably wouldn’t vote for him if it came to it.
But I would shake his hand, happily, and say a sincere “Thank you.”

Yes, thank you and bless you Senator Romney. Thank you for loving your country and the Constitution.
Thank you Senator Romney for the courage of your conviction and your courage to stand up for America . You are teaching children in school sometimes it’s hard to stand up to bullies. And as students learning how government works today are seeing in tweets what you’re going through because your decision. You put country first and God bless you I would hope people rally around you
Thank you Senator Romney for showing the Republican party that Honor and Integrity mean something. I know you will be chastised for what you did, but history will reward you. Eventually the truth will come out and you will be shown to be a man committed to your religion and country.
Thank you HONORABLE Senator Romney!!!
Do not suffer the fearful bullies of the world. In their embarrasment and shame their unprincipled ego’s will try tear you down.
However…Your one honest and true vote shows YOU to be a REAL MAN and a TRUE PATRIOT!
I was proud to see that there are still some elected officials who place country and law over politics and party. In my humble opinion, I can think of no other elected leader who has demonstrated what a true profile in courage represents than Sen. Mitt Romney. Thank You for being an example to our children of doing right because it’s right.
Mitt is a traitor who unceremoniously hides behind the shield of religion! The evidence presented by the partisan Democrats was hardly sufficient to convict the president, never rising to the level of clear and convincing or beyond a reasonable doubt. The other 52 senators got it right.
One needs only to do a little research to discover that John Bolton not only supported mitt in his failed presidential bid but Bolton was mitts foreign policy advisor during the campaign.
This was a simple payback in favor of an old buddy, John Bolton, And against a president who may have been unkind to mitt regarding the secretary of state position.
Matt is a a one term Senator who is best defined as an inconsequential relic.
