Despite the characterizations which Donald Trump and his supporters are trying to make, Sen Kamala Harris of California is not a “far left” choice for Joe Biden’s running mate, according to a prominent host on Fox News.

Harris has been in the Senate since 2017. Before that, she was the state attorney general of California and the district attorney in San Francisco.

Trump and his backers have been frantically trying to paint Harris, a Black woman who herself ran for president before dropping out, as part of the “far left.”

Fox News host Chris Wallace disputed that characterization, however.

“She did not do very well in the Democratic primaries for a variety of reasons. She didn’t run a great campaign. But, you know, she is not far to the left despite what Republicans are going to try to say,” he said. “There is a certain circuitous route to her position on issues. She was for Medicare for all before she was against it. I think she is a reasonably safe choice. She was the obvious frontrunner, the obvious choice. She adds excitement to the ticket and a statement to African-Americans and especially to African-American women who are the real solid core of the Democratic Party that the party does not take them for granted. And so I think she is a pretty safe choice and will energize some women, energize some African-Americans.

“Most importantly, it’s a cliche but true what people always say about the vice presidential pick is, first do no harm,” he added. “At least at first. We’ll see what happens over the next 80 some days she doesn’t do any harm to the Biden chances to be elected president.”
