The federal government is preparing for a potential second wave of novel coronavirus infections to accelerate across the country in the fall months, according to the White House coronavirus response coordinator.
That’s as much of the United States is emerging from months of “lockdown” conditions even as COVID-19 cases continue across the country, regularly killing thousands of Americans.
In the United States, nearly 1.7 million cases of COVID-19 have been reported, including nearly 100,000 dead, according to the most recent figures.
“We are preparing for that potential fall issue. Both in PPE which is protective devices — both in ventilator stock piles and ensuring that we’re really pushing in therapeutics and vaccine development so we can be ready if the virus does come back in a significant way,” said Dr Deborah Birx.
